A shopfitting company was fitting out a multi-level retail space and needed stainless handrails for stairs and ramps across three floors. The handrails had to be wall-mounted where possible, free-standing where there was no wall, and match a brushed stainless finish specified by the interior designer. The site was live — other trades were working around us — and noise and dust had to be controlled.
We measured each run on site, developed fabrication drawings, and TIG-welded the handrails in our Peakhurst workshop. We dressed all welds smooth and brushed to a consistent satin finish. We delivered sections pre-cut and pre-drilled, with fixing brackets, so installation on site was just bolting on and joining. We scheduled installation outside trading hours to avoid disruption to the centre.
All handrails were installed over two weekends, with no issues. The finish matched the designer's sample, and the shopfitter has used us on subsequent retail projects across Sydney.
Installing handrails in an operating retail centre has constraints that a workshop job doesn't. Noise restrictions meant no grinding after 10am. Dust control meant plastic sheeting and vacuum extraction on every cut. And we couldn't block walkways during trading hours. So we prefabricated everything in our Peakhurst workshop — sections pre-cut, pre-drilled, with brackets welded on — and installation on site was just bolting and joining. No grinding, no cutting, no dust. Just clean, fast installation over two Sunday nights.
The shopfitter's designer specified a satin brushed finish to match the elevator doors and shopfront trims. We brushed all welds and joints to the same grain direction so the handrail visually disappears into the surrounding fit-out.
